I was creaming my pants at this. gosh my goosebumps were like needles ??. Rest in peace, Scatman Crothers. In the movie script, his mother gave this strange, psychic intelligence a name. she called it Shining. His downplayed role was crucial in this movie. He had the high ground. This is my favorite scene in the movie but I still wish they got Jack Nicholson"s voice and just never showed Lloyd"s face. Doctor sleep 2019 watch online.
Listen. I wasn"t expecting Doctor Sleep to approach Kubrick"s towering horror masterpiece. But what I also didn"t expect was the film would manage to fall far, far below my severely tempered expectations. Having been a fan of Gerald"s Game though unconvinced by the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House, I was curious to see what Mike Flanagan could accomplish with this adaptation. The novel is no masterpiece and the tone strays significantly from King"s original The Shining, but it"s a solid enough story that could certainly have made for a compelling film with the right direction.
Unfortunately, as with The Haunting of Hill House, the direction seems to be the weak link as this film is plagued with a similar sense of dullness and inertia. Simply put, the film just plain fails at generating compelling and visceral sequences so crucial to a good horror film. It does have its moments, particularly the "baseball boy" scene, but so much of the film is populated with flatly-lensed, stilted dialogue sequences that kill any developing momentum. The script calls attention to itself far too frequently, perhaps most hilariously at the atrocious climax where our main villain and protagonist threaten to make each other scream in a manner befitting of a hammy C action movie. And the stilted dialogue and flat execution severely hinder investment in the characters who ultimately come off as underdeveloped and nebulous, the only exception being Rose who at least has a personality despite her non-threatening goofiness.
The thing that drags Doctor Sleep down from being an uninspired horror film to borderline offensive, though, is the absolutely shameless capitalization on the iconic imagery of Kubrick"s film. The final act of the story has been completely re-written from the novel, and the purpose couldn"t be more crystal clear: show us all the things we remember from the original film! It"s so blatant that the film"s narrative comes to a screeching halt so that adult Danny can slowly walk around the Overlook Hotel fun house to give the audience a chance to look at the things we"ve all seen before. The rich subtext, surrealism, and ambiguity of the original film is reduced to what feels like a cheap side show attraction where you pay a nickle to see some mannequins jut out at you via air-compressed pistons. It feels like a mockery, and King (who famously despises the original film) appears to have been heavily involved in constructing the ending which retcons Kubrick"s haunting modifications into something similar to his somewhat overblown and cheesy final act of the original novel.
I probably sound more angry than I really am. At the end of the day, the legacy of Kubrick"s film will live on unscathed, leaving Doctor Sleep to function as a disconnected diversion for the straight-to-Netflix crowd. Or at least that"s what I"ll keep telling myself.

Religion calls them demons, and if you see them and show fear, they will key in on your shining - link to this world. They exist in past bad event places as they are trapped and seek out those they can latch onto. They are trapped in another dimension where they can see ours, but can"t cross over unless you link to them and give them some of your energy. If you show fear, it is energy that they try to latch onto or feed off of. If you ignore them, they ignore you. Having seen the other dimension of darkness, while I was dead, the most evil - are trapped and stay around the places they died on earth. If you have this gift too, do the same and stay away from those places - especially if you are young and don"t understand how evil feeds off of energy so they don"t try and latch onto you. Keep your gift a secret- be dull and boring. They only exist if you mistakenly give them / share your energy- fear to them. That - feeds them. Positive energy places on earth are also good places to go and feel that energy - natural healing - good. Learn to go to those places to and relax- recharge your soul with people that share that same good energy pattern, feeling. Stay away from those places of negative / dark energy - they have demons that are trapped there who are desperate to feed / latch onto things. Don"t take rocks, souvenirs from those dark places either as those are physical links to those dark places you are inviting into your life that can only result in negative. Animals such as dogs, have a very high sense of negative energy on above and learn to read / link to your pets and their senses - those are their heightened survival traits we humans have evolved away from - as our senses are dulled compared to theirs. Dogs will whine, perk up their ears, and bark at negative evil energy aspects - defensive mechanism. Cats will run away and hiss, growl if they sense a dark presence, to avoid it. Key into their senses and yours and just understand - your body is made up of billions of cells - controlled by a conscious - soul energy force using an electrical nerve network to control your physical state. There are things that exist outside of our physical body that are energy too - some good, some dark and evil. As having left my body and been on the other side to look back inward and see others, demons exist - don"t feed them or allow their energy into yours. If you don"t believe any of this, you will one day when you pass and see it for yourself.

Even though I"m a fan of RWBY and noticed the Emerald figure and RWBY posters in her room, I didn"t catch on that Abra was making herself look like Emerald, mostly because her hair to me in the scene looks more blue than mint green. This was one of the coolest, most satisfying scenes in the movie. I"ve been waiting for this since I read the book. letttttsss gooooo.

The only thing that would make this scary is if Jack Torrence appeared as a zombie in Doctor Sleep. Great movie. Hopefully in time, it"ll get the recognition it deserves. Loved the book too. Had high expectations, and what I saw is way higher than my expectations! Some caracteres was really unique. I appreciated that Flanagan brought his own style of filmmaking to the table while paying homage to what Kubrick had done. From start to finish, I was vested in this film. I was a big fan of The Shining and have seen it at least 15-20 times, so if that"s you, you ll enjoy Dr Sleep! Well crafted were the early scenes that took place in 1980 at the time of The Shining and were off shoots of when that story was taking place. The acting and story are impeccable. It was a slow burn in terms of horror, but moreso and importantly great story and how its intertwined within itself over the last 30-35 years. No cheap trick "gotcha" moments. Rebecca Ferguson was amazing, and a very enticing seductive villain who you were enchanted to despise. Dr Sleep uncovers what "The Shine" is moreso than its predecessor, and becomes the A Story throughout the film. Definitely a nice follow to The Shining that"s done with reverence and compassion.
Honestly Shelley Duvall today seems like a really sweet old lady. Seeing Dan stab her in the shoulder with the axe was so satisfying. It had so many great Easter eggs not just to The Shinning but to the greater King Multiverses. The baseball boy being number 19 for example. It"s odd. Lloyd doesn"t look like Jack Nicholson, but he looks like Jack Torrance... My family had moved to So CA Jan 78" and in the summer of 1980 (At age almost 12) I went back by myself to Texas to see my best friend who was 2 yrs older, and his bro 5 yrs older than me, and the last thing my dad said b4 I got on the plane was you are not allowed to see the Shining, and that was the first thing we did when I got there. Always having older friends and most with even older brothers, all of my friends parents always treated me like I was older too. Then I"d go home and back to being treated as a kid.
